According to the club’s official site, Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is the Blues’ Player of the Season for 2019/20.

The Croatian moved to the Bridge from Real Madrid in the summer of 2018. He initially spent a season on loan before the deal was made permanent last summer.

His performances have seen him garner favour from supporters, who voted for him for the seasonal gong. He is now in the illustrious company of former winners such as Eden Hazard, Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and John Terry to name a few.

The Croatian made 47 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions last season. During this time he scored two goals and three assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

An ever-present in the Blues midfield, only two other players have made more appearances than Kovacic last season.

He came into his own as the season went on. Traits such as precise passing, reading of the game and strong pressing allowed him to play a key role in our midfield.
