Transfer boost for Chelsea as arch-rivals drop out of the race for 19-year-old Hungarian starlet

Chelsea given a clear run in the race for Dominik Szoboszlai

According to Tuttosport (h/t Football.london), Chelsea have been given a boost in their pursuit of RB Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

The Blues will benefit directly from AC Milan’s lack of interest in signing the youngster. It was expected that the Rossenori would be keen on signing the 19-year-old following the imminent arrival of new manager Ralf Rangnick.

However, the German’s move to Italy is now off, with him set to stay on as Head of Sport and Development Soccer for Red Bull.

This has effectively ended any interest Milan had in bringing the RB Salzburg star to the San Siro.

This should clear the way for Chelsea to make a move if they so desire. Capable of playing anywhere in the midfield, the Hungarian international is a dynamic player with high potential.

He is maturing into an excellent player and has grown by leaps and bounds last season. His performances saw him win the Austrian Bundesliga player of the season for the 2019-20 campaign.

Dominik Szoboszlai has high potential

Szoboszlai scored nine goals and made 14 assists in 27 appearances as Salzburg clinched their seventh successive league title. They also won the Austrian Cup for the second straight year to complete a double.

The Hungarian has a relatively modest €25m release clause. The major challenge for his signature is set to come from local rivals Arsenal.

Szoboszlai joined Salzburg from Liefering in 2017 and has since made 61 appearances for the Austrian giants. Despite being just 19, he has already scored 17 goals and 24 assists during that time. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Szoboszlai has shown that he has what it takes to mature into a world-class midfielder. Still just 19, he has the world at his feet.

Playing alongside a young and ambitious side such as Chelsea should help him grow both as a leader and a player. Chelsea should not miss out on the opportunity to sign such a talented young player. Szoboszlai has represented the Hungarian national team eight times.
