As confirmed by the club’s official site, Ben Chilwell is now a Chelsea player. The English international became the latest high-profile addition to the Blues’ ranks this summer.
The 23-year-old’s arrival will be a boon for Frank Lampard, who struggled with his options at left-back last season. The fact that the club brought in his top choice for the position is a welcome sight indeed.
Chilwell came through the academy at Leicester City before going on to establish himself as one of the best left-backs in the league. He has now penned a five-year deal with the Stamford Bridge giants.
His arrival has also eased the concern of one Chelsea star. Blues midfielder Mason Mount took to Twitter to welcome Chilwell in a rather unique manner.
The Chelsea star posted a picture of him, being tackled by his new teammate with the caption “no need to be fouling me now Benjamin”
The 21-year-old’s, tongue in cheek Tweet was well recieved by Chilwell who stayed true to his character.
The defender was sly enough to remind Mount that with them training together, he will have more reason to watch his back.
It proved to be a hilarious welcome to a player who has been a dogged rival whenever we have faced him. With both the English internationals in the same team now, one can expect fireworks at the Bridge.
Chilwell looks like he will fit in well with the talented bunch aiming to bring glory back to Chelsea.
Despite being just 23, Chilwell is an experienced player who has been pivotal for Leicester. Capable of contributing to both the attack and the defence, he is a well-rounded defender who certainly packs a punch.
