Leicester City open talks for Nicolas Tagliafico amidst Chelsea interest in Ben Chilwell
According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato (h/t Football.london), Leicester City have entered negotiations for Ajax Amsterdam star Nicolas Tagliafico.
This will come as a boost for Chelsea, who are keen on Foxes star Ben Chilwell. Leicester signing Tagliafico could perhaps pave the way for the Blues to complete a deal for Chilwell.
Left-back is a key area that Frank Lampard is keen to strengthen this summer. The Blues have a number of players on their list that is being headed by Chilwell.
Leicester’s asking price combined with the player’s lengthy contract at the King Power Stadium put the Blues in a spot of bother when it came to negotiations.
With the new season nearing, Chelsea are keen to ramp up efforts to sign Chilwell. Leicester bringing in an able replacement for the English international will certainly aid our cause.
A failure to agree to a deal would have seen Chelsea move on to other alternatives. Ironically, the player the Blues saw as an option was none other than Tagliafico.
The 27-year-old looks set to move on after enjoying a successful spell in the Dutch capital. Losing out on the Argentine should not matter much should we land Chilwell. It would be a case of having to take a step back only to propel forward by two.
Chilwell is keen to take part in the Champions League next season. The fact that Chelsea can offer him that is a key reason in his decision to make the switch to Stamford Bridge. (h/t Express)
The position has been a constant source of frustration for the Blues throughout the 2019-20 campaign. Neither Marcos Alonso nor Emerson Palmieri could stake a claim to be a dependable option at left-back.
