Chelsea in advanced talks for Sergio Reguilon
According to ESPN, Chelsea are now favourites to sign Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon.
The 23-year-old enjoyed an excellent spell on loan at Sevilla. His performances for the Andalusians saw him get named as the Spanish top-flight’s best left-back for 2019-20.
Despite his success, he will be hard-pressed to break into the Real Madrid XI. Los Blancos are well stocked in the position and are open to letting the Spaniard leave in order to balance their books.
As per the report, Chelsea are in advanced talks with the Spanish giants. The player too is keen on moving to the Premier League rather than return to Sevilla.
Bringing in a new-left back is a major priority for Frank Lampard. Neither Marcos Alonso nor Emerson Palmieri has done enough to make the spot their own. The Chelsea defence is in need of a revamp following a disappointing season at the back.
Leicester City star Ben Chilwell is the Blues’ preferred choice. However, with the Foxes looking for a world-record fee, Chelsea have been forced to look elsewhere.
In Reguilon, they might just have struck gold. Not only has he stepped up his performances in recent months but will cost a comparatively paltry €25million.
The 23-year-old made 31 appearances in La Liga for Los Palanganas this season. Not only is he defensively solid but is also capable of going forward. He scored two goals while assisting four more.
Reguilon played a key role as Sevilla eventually finished fourth and qualified for next season’s Champions League. The player’s agent Kia Joorabchian is a familiar face for Chelsea. He also represents Blues midfielder Willian, who looks to be on his way out.
The Spaniard has also attracted attention from Everton, with the Merseysiders making a bid of £18million last week.

The Blues have gone big on Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. Adding Kai Havertz to the list will also prove to be an expensive proposition.
Given the reinforcements needed, it makes no sense for us to put all our eggs in one basket. Chilwell may be good but it is debatable if he is truly worth what Leicester want for him.
Reguilon has proven he has what it takes to compete at the top level. At Chelsea, he could continue his evolution alongside a number of other promising youngsters.
