Chelsea ace Tammy Abraham has been linked with a move to Aston Villa

Chelsea ace Tammy Abraham’s future at the club has come into question following the Blues’ strengthening in the summer.

The 22-year-old started off the season as Chelsea’s first-choice striker. Although he enjoyed a fine start, his form gradually petered away as the season went on.

Abraham eventually finished the season behind Olivier Giroud in the pecking order. The addition of Timo Werner further complicates his position in the Blues hierarchy.

According to the Birmingham Mail, a picture posted by Aston Villa skipper Jack Grealish on Instagram has fuelled talks that Abraham could be on his way to Villa Park.

It will be a return to a familiar haunt where the Chelsea striker was on loan for the 2018-19 campaign. He played a key role in Aston Villa’s promotion to the Premier League and is a hero of sorts at Villa Park.

Abraham made 41 appearances for Villa and scored 26 goals while assisting three. Now a more experienced striker, he is only bound to have improved. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Tammy Abraham has fallen behind Olivier Giroud in the pecking order

The prospect of adding Abraham to the roster is something that Villa can benefit from. In fact, Grealish was the lone Villa star to break the double-digit barrier for goals scored this season.

The photo posted by Grealish saw him spend his downtime with Abraham, who is a close friend of his. Referring to the Chelsea star like his brother, he used the hashtag #secretagent.

It is in fact this hashtag that has got Villa fans excited. They hope it is a veiled reference to Grealish convincing his mate to join him at Villa Park once again.

Timo Werner is now a Chelsea player

It could just be a case of hopeful thinking and seeing what one wishes to. It would be ironic if it is, in fact, Abraham who in the end convinces Grealish to make the move to Chelsea. Clearly wishful thinking is not exclusive to Villa fans.

Abraham’s contract at Chelsea extends until 2023 after the Blues ace activated a one-year extension back in July.

Abraham is still raw but has shown enough potential that can see him become a leading striker.

With Michy Batshuayi on his way out and Giroud not getting any older, the Blues should keep hold of the 22-year-old. Training and also competing alongside Werner could yet help get the best out of him in the coming months.
