Dimitar Berbatov urges Lampard to sign Jan Oblak

In an interview with Betfair (h/t Mirror), former Manchester United and Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov has urged Chelsea to make a move for Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak in the summer.

Chelsea have made a blazing start to the transfer window, having already secured the signings of attacking midfielder Hakim Ziyech and striker Timo Werner from AFC Ajax and RB Leipzig respectively.

The club is set to further strengthen the attacking contingent with the signing of Bayer Leverkusen sensation Kai Havertz in the coming weeks.

And Berbatov has urged the club to now switch attention to the other end of the pitch and strengthen the goalkeeping department with the signing of Oblak. (h/t Mirror)

“They for sure need a goalkeeper and Jan Oblak would be a great option.”

The 27-year-old Slovenian is arguably the best goalkeeper in the game currently. A consistent top-class performer for Atletico Madrid, Oblak would be a major upgrade on our current options.

Indeed, Kepa Arrizabalaga has struggled since joining the club in a world-record move in 2018, while Willy Caballero, at 38, is in the twilight his career.

The Spaniard was dropped by Frank Lampard for our final league game against Wolves. And it looks like he has accepted his fate and he will not be at the club beyond this season.

It goes without saying that Lampard is building something special at Stamford Bridge, given the transfers that he has made. And signing Oblak would no doubt take our team a whole new level.

He could, however, cost the Blues a mammoth £109m, which might prove to be unfeasible.
