Fabrizio Romano confirms Chelsea are in pole position to sign Thiago Silva
According to Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are in pole position to sign Brazilian veteran Thiago Silva.
The 35-year-old bid goodbye to PSG after their heartbreaking Champions League final loss to Bayern Munich last night.
Speaking after the game, Romano revealed on Twitter that the Samba star is ready for a new challenge.
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Twitter), Thiago himself admitted that a number of teams are in discussions to take him on next season.
He denied that his entourage has reached an agreement with Fiorentina and will decide on his future in the coming days.
Despite his advanced age, Thiago showed he still remains a potent defender to deal with. He was at hand to nullify Robert Lewandowski in the final as the Polish star had an uncharacteristically scoreless night.
In fact, Silva will bring much-needed leadership to the Chelsea backline. Although he is not a long-term option, he could prove to be a shrewd move for us in the upcoming season.
We take a look at how Chelsea fans reacted to the news.

Help us ask if Manuel Neuer also needs new challenge. We will be glad to give him that. #KTBFFH

Willian (32) couldn’t get a 3 year deal at Chelsea? But Thiago Silva (36) is going to get a 2 year deal?? Seems a bit odd, unless I’m missing something?

Having Thiago Silva for what will be most likely a back up option is a smashing signing even at 35. The man played a CL final tonight not bad for a 35 year old has been. Chelsea having a scarey good window so far.

@tsilva3 Thiago Silva is a legend. He is the best center back! Better than Ramos, Van Dijk, Godin… Today he made Lewandowski look like a schoolboy. Experience, leadership, positioning… and a great character. I am so sorry that he could not lift the champions league trophy. 😭

He is welcome to Chelsea, and will be a good leader on the pitch.
