European rivals downplay rumours that star midfielder is Chelsea bound

Bayer Leverkusen deny having reached an agreement with Chelsea for Kai Havertz

According to German publication Kicker (h/t Metro), Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has dismissed talk of Kai Havertz closing in on a move to Chelsea.

The 21-year-old has emerged as a key target for Chelsea this summer. If it comes to fruition, he will join Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner in a new-look Blues attack.

However, according to Voller, a deal is far from done. He has gone on to add that the player will only be allowed to leave if certain conditions are met.

“No decision has been made yet.”

He went on to add that there is nothing new to report on the matter. He also went on to reveal that the player’s representatives are aware of what is needed to be done in order to complete a deal.

“We have a clear and mutual agreement with him and his representatives that he can only leave if certain requirements are met. Otherwise he will stay.”

The Blues are prepared to sign Havertz despite the financial uncertainty caused by the coronavirus crisis. He will not come cheap, with the Bundesliga club demanding in excess of £89.8m for their star man.

Lampard is keen to strengthen his squad going into next season. Despite a slew of injuries, Chelsea’s deficiencies were laid bare for all to see against Bayern Munich.

The 7-1 aggregate loss was not just a humbling experience for the players but also showed the Blues boss what needs to be done to make us competitive again.

Havertz is one of the best young players in world football. Capturing him will be yet another coup for Marina Granovskaia. She successfully stole a march on our rivals by signing both Ziyech and Werner and may repeat the trick with Havertz.

Will Marina Granovskaia pull off yet another blinder of a signing?

Havertz and Leverkusen’s season came to an end when they were beaten by Sevilla in the Europa League quarterfinals. The German ace was once again on the scoresheet but could not prevent his side from being knocked out.

The loss put an end to any hopes of Leverkusen qualifying for next season’s Champions League. Hopefully, his next competitive appearance will be in the blue of Chelsea.
