Chelsea urged to snub mega-deal for Kai Havertz

According to the Daily Star, former Liverpool and Real Madrid winger Steve McManaman has asked Chelsea to reconsider their interest in Kai Havertz.

The Blues are close to securing a move for the prodigiously talented Bayer Leverkusen star. If the reported numbers are true, it will make the 21-year-old the most expensive signing in our history.

The addition of Havertz will be a boost to a Blues attack that has lacked inspiration at times this season. The likes of Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, and Timo Werner already on board. Havertz can add to what is potentially a scintillating attack for years to come.

McManaman, however, believes the player is better off staying in Germany and continuing his development.

“For Sancho, Haaland, and Havertz I’d let them play in Germany and establish themselves a bit more. I don’t think they need to come and jump into the Premier League.”

Havertz came through the youth academy at Leverkusen and has cemented himself as a key member of the German side in recent years.

Despite being just 21, he has made 150 appearances for Leverkusen and a further seven for the German national team. Capable of playing in a variety of positions he averages 0.51 goal contributions per game for Die Werkself. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Chelsea and Leverkusen are still some off regarding their valuation of the player. The Germans want £90million for their star man, whereas Chelsea have bid around £70m.

A settlement is however expected to be reached with additional fees and instalments bringing the complete package for Havertz up to Leverkusen’s valuation. (h/t Express)
