Chelsea to hold contract talks with Conor Gallagher
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are set to have contract talks with Conor Gallagher, who is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs.
The midfielder, who was on loan at Swansea since January, gave a real account of his skills at the Liberty Stadium. Having spent the first half on loan at Charlton Athletic, Gallagher showcased no drop in performance levels after switching to Swansea.
He finished the 2019/20 campaign with 6 goals and 11 assists in 47 appearances for both clubs combined. The youngster’s performances saw Swansea come to within a whisker of qualifying for the Championship playoff final.
His performances have not gone unnoticed. The likes of Newcastle United, Aston Villa, Leeds United and Crystal Palace are all keeping tabs on his progress. (h/t Daily Mail)
A slew of Championships sides are also keen on taking on the youngster. Chelsea, for their part, are keen to see him go out on loan yet again.
It was earlier reported by Football.london (h/t Leeds Live) that the Blues are keen to see the player move to a club that employs a similar style as them.
An opportunity to impress
This could mean that the club are keen to groom him for the future. With the likes of Hakim Ziyech and potentially Kai Havertz joining, the prospect of Gallagher getting enough game time at Stamford Bridge is remote.
Given the circumstances, it makes sense for him to seek it out elsewhere. He has just two more years left on his current deal at the Bridge. Chelsea’s intention to tie down a promising young talent is understandable.
To put matters into perspective, Gallagher’s 17-goal contribution last season equalled the tally set by Mason Mount at Derby County during the 2018/19 campaign.
Given that Mount has now successfully stepped up for the Chelsea senior side, Gallagher could follow in his footsteps in the future.

Gallagher grew up admiring Frank Lampard. Another impressive loan spell will make it hard for him to escape his manager’s attention.
A box-to-box midfielder who can fulfil a variety of roles, Gallagher’s adaptability is an excellent strength. Whether he will blossom into a reliable premier League midfielder remains to be seen.
