Chelsea re-open negotiations for potential world-beater with €65m initial offer

Real Madrid are unlikely to bid for Kai Havertz leaving Chelsea in pole position

Chelsea and Bayer Leverkusen are €20m apart in their valuation of Kai Havertz

According to The Guardian, Chelsea have reopened talks with Bayer Leverkusen regarding a move for Kai Havertz.

The Blues have made an initial offer of €65million with a further €15m to be paid in bonuses. This has, however, failed to satisfy Leverkusen, who are sticking to their asking price of €100m for the young sensation.

Chelsea have now turned their attention in attempting to convince the Germans to lower their asking price. Success in doing so will make Havertz the club’s third high-profile signing of the summer.

The player is keen on a move and has already agreed to switch to Stamford Bridge. At this point in time, it would appear that the transfer fee is the only obstacle holding up the deal.

Despite Chelsea’s efforts, the report states that the club is likely to increase their offer. This will also see a rise in the add-ons to be paid.

Leverkusen for their part are keen for negotiations to come to a swift conclusion. With the new Bundesliga season set to start on September 18, they are keen to move ahead with their preparations.

This stems from the fact that neither of our rivals are in a position to afford the 21-year-old. Who would have thought that our transfer ban last summer would be a blessing in disguise?

With just two years left on his current deal, Havertz is seeking a new challenge. He aims to play in the Champions League, something the Blues can offer.

Despite having to account for the loss of Pedro and Willian, Havertz is not Chelsea’s sole priority. The Blues will still need funds to restructure their defence.
