Chelsea outcast Tiemoue Bakayoko nears AC Milan loan deal

According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t Mirror), Chelsea star Tiemoue Bakayoko is closing in on joining AC Milan on loan.

The 26-year-old signed for Chelsea from AS Monaco in a £40m deal after having helped the French side to Ligue 1 glory in 2016/17. However, he has struggled to make any sort of impact at Stamford Bridge.

He spent just one season on loan and was sent out to AC Milan on loan. Having failed to impress, he once again went out on loan, this time to Monaco.

According to the report, he appears to be on his way out of Chelsea once again. AC Milan looks to be the destination, with the Italians closing in on the Ivorian.

Frank Lampard is not short of options in the midfield. With the likes of N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Billy Gilmour available, Bakayoko will be hard-pressed to gain preference.

The midfielder has two years left on his contract with the club, Chelsea are now ready to cash in on him. His loan to Milan will include an option for the Italians to make the transfer permanent next summer.

Bakayoko’s career at the Bridge looks to be over. Milan rejected the chance to sign him permanently last year. Hopefully, the player’s performances will convince them otherwise next summer.

He has made just 43 appearances for Chelsea, all of which came in his first season at the club. During this time, he scored three goals and assisted three more. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Chelsea have already made significant investments in the transfer market to sign Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. With Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell also en route, the Blues are looking at a new core going into next season.

Bakayoko was an excellent player in a Monaco side that included some of the best young talents on the continent.

Unfortunately, his time at Chelsea has been anything but. A move away will be the best solution for all parties involved.
