According to the Mirror (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea legend John Terry has been shortlisted to take over as the new Bournemouth manager.
The Cherries parted ways with long-serving boss Eddie Howe following their relegation. With the new campaign edging closer, the hunt for a new manager is on.
The former Chelsea skipper is currently working as an assistant manager to Dean Smith at Aston Villa. He has expressed interest in becoming a head coach in the future.
He was earlier linked to the vacant post in Bristol City in July after they sacked Lee Johnson. According to the report, he is interested in the project at the Vitality Stadium after gaining experience at Villa Park.
If it does come to fruition, he will join fellow golden generation teammates Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard, who have taken the reins at Chelsea and Rangers respectively.
Succeeding Howe at Bournemouth will be no mean feat for Terry. The Englishman took the side from the bowels of League Two to the Premier League in six years.
Although it ultimately ended in tragedy, he leaves big boots for his successor to fill. A leadership position is not something new to terry. He led Chelsea with distinction as a captain for over a decade.
Bournemouth presents him with an opportunity to make a mark as a manager. The Championship is a difficult training ground but as Terry has often shown, adversity could bring the best out of him.
Other contenders for the job include Howe’s assistant Jason Tindall and Fulham manager Scott Parker.
With Fulham gaining promotion to the Premier League, there are two former Chelsea players in charge of top-flight outfits. If Terry does indeed take charge of the Cherries, he will hopefully join Scott Parker and Lampard as Premier League managers.
