A View From The Bridge

Chelsea face an anxious wait on status of £50m target’s injury

Chelsea could reconsider interest in Ben Chilwell

According to The Sun, Chelsea could pull the plug on their interest in Leicester City star Ben Chilwell.

The Blues had been closing in on a £50million deal for the Foxes left-back. However, the player’s recent injury concerns could see the deal scuppered.

Chilwell missed the last five Premier League games of last season owing to injury. It is debatable if his absence saw Leicester fall off in the race for the top four.

Ben Chilwell is Chelsea’s top left-back target

According to the report, he is now at the risk of missing another six weeks with an injury. This will see him miss out on the opening few weeks of the 2020/21 campaign.

He is now set to visit a specialist to gain a better understanding of the extent to his heel injury.

The left-back spot has been a constant spot of bother for Frank Lampard last season. The Blues boss was keen to address it this summer and had identified Chilwell as his top target.

Chelsea could reconsider the Ben Chilwell transfer

The 23-year-old has been offered on a five-year deal worth £150,000-per-week to join the Stamford Bridge outfit. However, his injury concerns could see the move collapse.

A lengthy absence will not just see him miss out on our opening few games but also on pre-season altogether.

The report adds that Chelsea could be willing to move ahead if it is confirmed that he will return in three weeks as initially feared.

Emerson’s move to Inter Milan looks to be in danger

When it rains, it pours!

The Blues were keen to move on Emerson Palmieri to make room for Chilwell. It now appears that this deal too could run into rough waters.

The Italian looked set to join former Blues boss Antonio Conte at Inter Milan. However, if Conte is sacked, the club’s transfer plans could be altered or dropped altogether. (h/t The Sun)

Whether this has any bearing on our pursuit of Chilwell remains to be seen.
