Chelsea monitoring David Alaba’s contract situation
According to a report from The Telegraph, Chelsea are closely watching the contract situation of Bayern Munich star David Alaba as they eye a summer swoop.
The 28-year-old Austrian is one of the most accomplished defenders in all of Europe currently. Primarily a left-back, Alaba has developed into an able centre-back in the ongoing season, while he is equally adept at playing in the defensive midfield role.
Having been a key member of the all-conquering Bayern Munich side for a decade, Alaba is staring at an uncertain future, having entered the final year of his current contract with the Bavarians. (h/t The Telegraph)
The 28-year-old’s deal expires in less than twelve months and Bayern have put forth a new deal as they remain intent on retaining his services. However, Alaba is holding out for more lucrative terms than those being offered currently. (h/t The Telegraph)
Should the two parties be unable to arrive an agreement on new terms, there is a good chance that Bayern may end up reluctantly selling their star defender in order to avoid losing him on a free next year.
Our defence has hardly been convincing this season. We have conceded the most number of goals by a club in the top half of the Premier League table. So it is imperative that Frank Lampard looks to tighten things up at the back before next season resumes.

Alaba, to that end, would be a brilliant acquisition. Capable of playing on the left side of the defence and through the centre, the Austrian would undoubtedly bolster our backline.
However, we will have to battle the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan and PSG along with PL rivals Manchester City in order to land the Austrian. (h/t The Telegraph)
