Chelsea inch closer to £50m Ben Chilwell signing
According to John Percy of The Telegraph, Chelsea are on the verge of completing the signing of Leicester City star Ben Chilwell.
The 23-year-old has been long-linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge. And a deal could finally be on the horizon, with the two teams having agreed on a transfer fee of £50m.
While a deal was claimed to be close, there were last-minute concerns raised due to Chilwell’s recent injury issues, which could have scuppered the deal. (h/t The Sun)
However, as per the latest update from John Percy, Chelsea have no long-term worries over the England international’s heel issue and are now going to press ahead with the transfer.
The report goes on to claim that a move should be completed within the next three days, with Chilwell expected to sign a five-year contract.
Chilwell’s potential arrival should address our problems at left-back. Neither Marcos Alonso nor Emerson Palmieri were convincing enough in the 2019/20 campaign. This had even forced Frank Lampard to use captain Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back on numerous occasions.
Chilwell’s signing, thus, should ease those troubles to a large extent.
