Chelsea agree four-year deal with defender Malang Sarr
According to Telefoot via GFFN (h/t Metro), Chelsea have agreed on a four-year deal for former Nice star Malang Sarr.
The 21-year-old is a free agent after he failed to extend his stay with the Ligue 1 side this summer. Sarr has considerable experience despite his age and has made 119 appearances for the Ligue 1 side.
According to the report, Chelsea beat off competition from a host of clubs from France and Spain. It also goes on to add that Sarr has also agreed on personal terms with the Blues.
The completion of the deal now hinges on a medical being successfully cleared. Once Sarr gives his final approval, he will fly down to London with his representatives to complete the remaining formalities.
Primarily a centre-back, Sarr is equally capable of doing a job at left-back. This versatility could be an asset given Chelsea’s weaknesses in both these positions.
The youngster came through the youth academy at Nice and eventually made his debut in 2017 at the age of just 17. He scored the winner that day to became the second-youngest player to score on his Ligue 1 debut. (h/t Daily Mail)
One for the future?
Despite the promise, he has endured a season of two halves in 2019/20. He initially spent the first half of the season out of the starting lineup. This was in contrast to the second half, where he was a regular feature.
He eventually went on to captain Nice in their 2-0 away win to Toulouse. The Ligue 1 side finished fifth last season and qualified for the Europa League.
If the deal comes to pass, it remains to be seen if Chelsea will keep him on or loan him out.
