Chelsea’s defensive problems are no secret. It is an area that the club needs to desperately fix going into the new season. Some of the high-profile names on our radar include Declan Rice, Jose Gimenez and even Kalidou Koulibaly.
The latest name to do the rounds is that of Brighton and Hove Albion skipper Lewis Dunk. It is unclear how the rumour started but from the looks of it, the majority of the Blues fans are on board.
Dunk came through the ranks at the Brighton academy. With over 300 first-team games, he is well versed with the English game.
Also, he is a Chelsea supporter who looks up to John Terry. A leader at the back, he is also a dominant presence in the air at both ends of the pitch. Dunk may not be the most glamorous option, however, he could turn out to be an extremely effective one.
The romantic notion of a 29-year-old fan coming in and transforming the club’s defence is something we can get on board with. Whether it comes to pass or not remains to be seen.
We take a look at how Chelsea fans reacted to the rumour.
