48 hours is a long time in football. Saturday night saw Chelsea appear to relinquish their hold on third spot.
Yesterday, they came to within seconds of doing that only for a former Chelsea youth player to ensure otherwise.
Michael Obafemi, who had a brief stint at Chelsea many years ago was the hero on the night as he denied Manchester United the chance to break into the top four.
With the game deep into stoppage time, Obafemi was at hand to sweep the ball in as the Saints scored from a well-executed corner. Harry Maguire looked to be marking his own player and was left clueless as the ball went in.
The Red Devils once again faltered and continue to stay fifth – a position that has become synonymous with them this season.
Obafemi is the second such Chelsea youth star to help his former club’s top-four push. Dominic Solanke had earlier put Leicester to the sword, ensuring they did not overtake us.
It is ironic that both the players have done for us since leaving the club than donning the Chelsea colours. Even after the Sheffield United horror show, Chelsea remain 3rd in the table, with their fate still in their own hands.
The footballing Gods work in mysterious ways. It so seems that former Chelsea youth products are their apostles.
