“We’re in a good position” – Furious Lampard remains defiant following West Ham loss

Frank Lampard remains defiant as Chelsea slip up in the top-four race

According to the Express, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard remains defiant about his side’s chances of making the top four despite falling 3-2 away to West Ham United.

The Blues took the lead through Willian but were pegged back as the Hammers equalized in first-half stoppage time.

Willian once again scored to bring us level after Michail Antonio had given West Ham the lead. A comeback looked to be on before Andriy Yarmolenko waltzed through our backline to deliver the sucker punch.

Chelsea’s defensive mistakes proved costly against West Ham United

The loss has reduced the gap between us and the chasing pack to just two points. With both Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers showing astute game management, we cannot afford to drop any more cheap points.

Lampard was keen to stress on the fact that despite the loss, we still hold onto fourth spot.

“We are upset because we wanted to win the game, we’re footballers and we’re in a good position.”

The Chelsea boss rightly believes that it was a match that his side should have won. The Blues were the better team on the night except for the defensive lapses that proved costly.

Willian scored both of Chelsea’s goals

“I can’t help but say the truth today which is that it’s a game we should have won tonight.”

He admits that his side still has work to do. Chelsea are in need of consistency. Too often have we come away with nothing to show for our efforts.

Lampard has not shied away from our troubles and that augurs well for the future. Hopefully, we can get back to winning ways against Watford.

Our defensive frailties are no secret, with the team making mistakes throughout the season.

The club has done well to strengthen the attack for next season, but unless we can tighten up at the back, matches are more likely to become a turkey shootout.

Thankfully for us, Leicester City also lost on the night. If we can get our act together, it will be them and not us who will have to worry about the chasing pack.

United play Leicester while we play Wolves on the last day of the season. It appears that the drama is still just unfolding.
