According to Calciomercato (h/t Express), Chelsea are among a number of clubs monitoring Uruguayan youngster Facundo Pellistri.
The 18-year-old has attracted the attention of some of the biggest names in European football. The likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus are all keeping tabs on his progress. (h/t Express)
According to the report, the Blues are set to solidify their interest by making a move for the youngster in the summer transfer window.
Other clubs too have been making move to win the race for Pellistri. While Juventus have sent scouts to watch him, City are in touch with the player’s representatives. (h/t Express)
Capable of playing on either flank, the 18-year-old has made 25 appearances for the Penarol first-team. During this time, he has scored one goal and made three assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A major spanner in the works could be the player’s preference to move to Spain as confirmed by his agent last month. Given that Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are also interested, he will not be short of suitors. (h/t Express)
Pellistri also holds a Spanish passport, meaning he will not need a work permit to play in Europe.
Closer to home, United have the edge due to Penarol being managed by former Red Devil Diego Forlan. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is aware of the player and has asked his former teammate for his opinion.
Forlan for his part has a high opinion of the youngster and has tipped him for great things. (h/t Express)
Pellistri signed a new contract with Penarol keeping him at the club until 2022 and is believed to have a £10m release clause. Given his vast potential, it might turn out to be a steal.
Having already signed the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, Chelsea are far from done regarding the transfer market.
Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell remain on the club’s radar as they look to compete against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
