Transfer News: London rivals close in on £25m deal for Chelsea star

Kurt Zouma of Chelsea is on the transfer radar of Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, West Ham United, and Southampton.

Tottenham Hotspur close in on Kurt Zouma

According to the Express, Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.

The Blues’ defender is considered expendable by the club as we look to revamp the squad going into next season. Despite him starting our last two Premier League games, Frank Lampard isn’t keen to keep him on. (h/t Express)

The Blues’ boss plans to bring in former Chelsea youth product Declan Rice. Unfortunately for Zouma, this will come at his cost. (h/t Express)

Spurs are not the only team interested in the Frenchman. Everton too are keen to bring back the defender who impressed on loan at Goodison Park last season. (h/t Express)

It appears to be a face-off between two former Chelsea bosses for the player. Jose Mourinho was the one who signed Zouma for Chelsea in 2014. He now seeks to bring in the defender to Tottenham as he aims to revamp a sluggish Spurs backline. (h/t Express)

According to the report, the only stumbling block is Chelsea’s valuation of the player. Set at an impressive £25m, the Blues seek more than double the amount they paid to bring him to the Bridge.

Interestingly he started the current season as the first-choice centre-back under Frank Lampard. However, a dip in form has seen him fall behind Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.

More Chelsea News

It is fair to say that much was expected of the 25-year-old when he made the move to Chelsea. Zouma has shown flashes of his brilliance but they have come few and far in between.

The Blues will be well served to move on a player who is not part of our long-term plans. Being paid handsomely will also ensure we have more funds to bring in the players we need.

Whether Zouma will be moved on or kept on as defensive cover remains to be seen.
