Transfer News: Chelsea make an offer for world-class La Liga goalkeeper

Chelsea have bid for Barcelona star Marc-Andre ter Stegen

According to Spanish publication Cadena Ser (h/t Express), Chelsea have made an approach for Barcelona’s ace goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

One of the best goalkeepers in the world, the German is an assured presence between the sticks. He has countless times been a formidable last line of defence for the Catalan giants.

The Blues paid a world-record fee to bring Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga to Stamford Bridge in 2018. He has failed to justify his position as the club’s number one. Two years on, Frank Lampard is keen to ship him out and cut his losses. (h/t Express)

Chelsea have made a bid for Marc-Andre ter Stegen

Ter Stegen joined Barcelona from Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014. He has since made 234 appearances for Barcelona while keeping 100 clean sheets.

Ter-Stegen is alongside Oblak and Alisson Becker amongst the foremost keepers in the game today. Chelsea are also linked with a move for Oblak, showing Lampard is keen on bringing in the very best. (h/t Express)

The German has been one of Barcelona’s shining lights in a disappointing La Liga campaign that saw them relinquish their title to arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Chelsea are also interested in Jan Oblak

A consistent goalkeeper, Ter-Stegen would immensely boost our defence by going straight into the starting lineup. Whether Barcelona are even ready to entertain offers for him is debatable.

The Catalans are today a team on the wane. Numerous times have they looked clueless in the absence of Lionel Messi. Already 33, the Argentine is also nearing the end of his career.

A massive rebuild is needed. One that is already underway at Bridge. Ter Stegen has the chance to join what is an exciting new project by an ambitious manager and motivated players.

The Blues have shown a liking to German players. Timo Werner has already joined while Kai Havertz also appears to be on his way. With Robin Gosens also on the radar, Ter Stegen might find it easier to adapt if he so chooses to make a move.

For now, it is mere speculation. What happens in Chelsea’s goalkeeper hunt remains to be seen.
