According to Leicester Mercury, Leicester City are keen on bringing in Wigan Athletic left-back Antonee Robinson.
The former Everton youth product left Goodison Park to join Wigan last summer. He has since gone from strength to strength at the Latics. Robinson has made 34 appearances for Wigan across all competitions, scoring once. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The news of the Foxes; interest comes in the midst of Chelsea’s interest in Ben Chilwell. The Leicester defender has been heavily touted as a major target for the Blues as they look to revamp key areas of the squad going into next season.
One team’s misery can be another’s gain. In this case, it benefits two teams. Both Chelsea and Leicester could benefit from Wigan going into administration. According to the report, this can help the Foxes grab Robinson for a cut-price deal.
With both Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso unconvincing, Chilwell is the club’s first-choice target to replace the duo.
The Blues have however drawn up a list of alternatives. Everton’s Lucas Digne, FC Porto’s Alex Telles, and Ajax’s Nicolas Tagliafico are alternative options for Frank Lampard’s side. (h/t Leicester Mercury)
Leicester are not worried over the interest in their defensive ace. With his contract running until 2024, the Foxes are also in a good position when it comes to negotiations.
To have the opportunity to join a club such as Chelsea would be a dream for many players.
The mentality of a player is as important as his ability on the ball. In Chilwell, Chelsea looks to have identified the right player on both fronts. Whether he will make the move to the Bridge remains to be seen.
Chelsea have already finalized the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. It is proving to be an exciting window at the Bridge so far.
