As confirmed by the club’s official Twitter account, Mason Mount became the first Chelsea academy graduate to make his debut and also make 50 appearances in the same campaign.
Unfortunately, it was not a night to remember as Liverpool ran out 5-3 winners on the night.
Mount was taken off in the second half as the Blues attempted a fightback. He will have better nights for Chelsea.
Mount has been in the club’s youth setup since 2005. He progressed up the ranks before catching the eye while on loan at Vitesse Arnhem in 2017-18.
He followed that up with another successful loan spell at Derby County, then managed by Frank Lampard. The Rams came close to gaining promotion, only to fall at the final hurdle.
Now back home, he has developed into one of Lampard’s trusted stars. With seven goals and five assists, he has shown he has the tools to become a leading player in the future.
For now, this is one small step in what could become a very special Chelsea career for the youngster. We take a look at how fans reacted to the occasion on Twitter.
