According to the Mirror, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has praised the contributions of Mason Mount and Olivier Giroud in Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The victory ensured we finished in the top four and qualified for next season’s Champions League. Mount gave Chelsea the lead with a brilliant freekick before Giroud scored a minute later.
Both goals came in first-half stoppage time and took the wind out of Wolves’ sails. Lampard believes Mount’s best is yet to come. The 21-year-old endured a miserable 50th appearance for the club, at Anfield.
He put that to bed and showcased professionalism with a man of the match performance on the night. Lampard said,
“He can definitely get better because he is so young. You saw his technique on the free-kick. Only top players can do that.”
Giroud too has enjoyed a fine run of form after spending the first half of the season on the bench. Tammy Abraham’s injury gave the Frenchman a chance to step up and he has taken it with both hands.
Set to stay on for another year, the veteran has been key in our excellent form since the restart.
“Oli has to take all the credit from Jan onwards. I was never unaware of Oli’s talents but that was just the circumstance of the time.”
The Chelsea boss is keen to push on after a taxing yet promising first season in charge of the club. A Blue through and through, he knows what is expected of him and is evolving along with his team.
“When you step in Chelsea, the demands are huge to win week-in, week-out and that’s pretty tough. I’m obsessive in the way I work and I have learned to get the balance right.”
Lampard also praised Spanish winger Pedro, who will leave for Roma in the summer. The veteran scored a number of crucial goals for the club and won three major honours while at Stamford Bridge.
