Lampard hits out at Liverpool again, claims the Reds broke touchline ‘code’

Frank Lampard criticises Liverpool of breaking touchline ‘code’

As reported by Sky Sports, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has hit out at Premier League champions Liverpool for their behaviour on the touchline when the two teams clashed earlier this week.

Chelsea lost 5-3 to Liverpool, but the headlines have been dominated by the touchline spat between Lampard and Klopp and Liverpool’s coaching staff.

Tempers flared on the touchline after Liverpool were awarded a foul even though Mateo Kovacic had cleanly won the ball from Sadio Mane. This led to Lampard launching into a foul-mouthed rant after Reds’ assistant coach Pep Lijnders passed some comments from the bench. (h/t Sky Sports)

Lampard later warned Liverpool not to “get too arrogant” just because they had won the title, during his post-match interview. (h/t Sky Sports)

Opening up on the entire episode, Lampard, ahead of Chelsea’s final league game against Wolves, claimed that Liverpool had not respected the touchline ‘code’. (h/t Sky Sports)

“What is the code? I think when you speak between managers, and there are lots of decisions that go and you can hear it more clearly now without the crowd.

“But when people on the bench jump up and want to speak across to myself and then smirk and smile and then continue to do so for quite a while; I think that is past the code.”

Chelsea are currently fourth in the PL table

Lampard admitted that he regretted the language he used during the rant, which has gone viral on social media. But he stood by his comments of calling out Liverpool’s arrogance, though, he insisted that he doesn’t have any problems with Klopp. (h/t Sky Sports)

Chelsea face off against Wolves in the final game of the season at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. One point is needed for the Blues to confirm qualification for the Champions League next season.
