According to Italian publication Area Napoli (h/t Express), Chelsea star Jorginho is ready to call an end to his time at Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old is yet to play a single minute for the Blues since the restart. This is in stark contrast to the 37 games he has played prior to the lockdown.
The lack of match action is seen as the major reason for him wanting out. The Italian has been heavily linked with a reunion with former boss Maurizio Sarri who is now in charge of Juventus.
Sarri had earlier coached Jorginho at Napoli. He made the midfielder his first signing at Chelsea, convincing the Blues to shell out £58million in 2018.
Jorginho endured a difficult first season at Chelsea and came in for much criticism from the fans. He has thrived under Frank Lampard and had established himself as a key member of the squad.
He has also improved his goal contributions by notching up 7 goals and 2 assists. This is a far cry from the two goals he scored last season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
With a fully fit squad at his disposal, Lampard is not short of options in midfield. With the likes of N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Ross Barkley, Billy Gilmour, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount all available, once can see why Jorginho has missed out.
According to the report, Lampard is keen to keep hold of the Italian, provided he wants to stay.
Juventus are unlikely to be able to shell out serious money given the current financial crisis.
Jorginho is one of our senior players and adds a lot of experience to the midfield. It will be in our best interests to keep him. With a number of games yet to come, he could very well be a back in the line-up soon.
