“It’ll be competition”: Chelsea warned over letting star man join PL rivals

Dennis Wise warns Chelsea about letting Willian join rivals Arsenal

Speaking to Stadium Astro (h/t Daily Star), former Chelsea captain Dennis Wise has warned the club that allowing Willian to sign for Arsenal or Manchester United could come back to bite them in the future.

The 31-year-old Willian’s contract was set to expire last month. And while the Brazilian has agreed a short-term extension to see out the season, his future beyond the elongated 2019/20 campaign remains uncertain.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has claimed that there are negotiations being held over a new contract for the Brazilian. However, with the situation remaining as is, a number of clubs are interested in the 31-year-old, with rivals Arsenal and Manchester United also among the suitors. (h/t Daily Star)

Wise, though, feels that Willian joining either of the two teams could hurt Chelsea in the future. (h/t Daily Star)

“Well, I wouldn’t want him to go to any of them. I’ve got to say because it’ll be competition for Chelsea. Go to Italy please, Willian. Go away. That’s the sad thing about it, we’ll let him go to an opposition who wants to compete.”

Willian has been at the club since the summer of 2013. The Brazilian has grown into a key member of the team, winning a number of titles and trophies along the way.

Despite turning 31, the Brazilian has plenty to offer to the team, as was seen in his performance against Manchester City and West Ham United recently.

In 41 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea this season, the veteran Brazilian has netted 10 goals and set up 7 more. Holding onto him for another season or two would serve the club well. But it remains to be seen if a contract agreement is reached between the two parties.
