Werner thrived on the counter at RB Leipzig

Timo Werner takes part in first Chelsea training session

New Chelsea signing Timo Werner took part in his first Chelsea training session on Monday morning.

The £53million man was in attendance at the Bridge as the Blues made short work of Wolverhampton Wanderers to clinch a top-four finish.

The German ace trained on his own after Frank Lampard gave his Chelsea stars a day off after what has been a well-deserved win.

The striker was put through the paces at Cobham and took part in stretching and fitness-related activities. This was followed by training that focussed on ball work, dribbling and some finishing exercises.

Werner is ineligible to play for Chelsea this season. The Blues still have an FA Cup final to deal with before looking to overturn a 3-0 deficit against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League.

It is a competition Werner could have taken part in had he stuck around with RB Leipzig. However, he chose to forgo that opportunity and hasten his move to Chelsea.

It is upon him and the club to ensure that he is put through the paces ahead of next season. With the 2020-21 campaign set to kick off on September 12, we have enough time to get him acclimatized to the Chelsea style.

A prolific goalscorer, Chelsea signing him was nothing short of a coup. With Hakim Ziyech also joining, Lampard has a much stronger attack to call upon next season.

Werner appears to have adapted to his new surroundings and was spotted sharing a joke with Chelsea legend and the current technical and performance adviser Petr Cech.

Hopefully, this extends to the pitch and he can hit the ground running once the new season begins.
