“I want more” – Chelsea boss Lampard sends title warning to frontrunners

Frank Lampard sends title warning to Liverpool and Manchester City

According to the Mirror, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has vowed to make it harder for Liverpool and Manchester City next season.

The two are amongst the best teams in Europe and sit a massive 30 and 9 points above us respectively. Despite our promising season, the gap between us and the duo is some way away from being bridged.

The Blues are in the semifinals of the FA Cup, and are also in the UEFA Champions League. Despite trailing 3-0 from the first leg in the latter, miracles cannot be dismissed.

Frank Lampard hopes to close the gap on Liverpool and Manchester City

The fact that we are closer to 17th placed Watford over Liverpool is a damning indictment that cannot be ignored.

“I am happy but I want a lot more. When we come back after however this season ends we have to tackle it and say: ‘can we start closing that gap?”

Lampard is not ignorant of the work needed to be done to catch up with the teams above us.

We are still a work in progress and are ready to build upon it. Chelsea have shown they can battle alongside the best this season. We dumped Liverpool out of the FA Cup and recently defeated Manchester City at home.

“We are in a situation where we are a work in progress. There is a lot to do.”

Liverpool are currently the Premier League’s gold standard

Lampard is happy with the potential his team has shown this season. The fact that we are third shows we are the best of the chasing pack.

Chelsea are primed to break the duopoly in the Premier League and have already stolen a march on their summer rebuild. With Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner already on board, we are a much more dangerous proposition next season.

With our business far from done, it remains to be seen if we can catch up.

Lampard as a player fought for the biggest prizes in football. He is under no illusions of what needs to be done to get Chelsea to that point again. If he keeps improving, it becomes a matter of when and not if.
