Former PL star urges top Chelsea target to snub Stamford Bridge switch

Declan Rice advised against returning to Chelsea

Speaking on the West Ham Podcast (h/t Express), Hammers legend Tony Carr has advised Chelsea transfer target Declan Rice to snub any interest from the Blues.

He has instead urged the youngster to follow in the footsteps of Mark Noble and to try and build a legacy at the London Stadium. (h/t Express)

Chelsea are keen to add leadership and quality to their defence this summer. The Blues have struggled to maintain defensive solidity all season. This was well illustrated during our 5-3 loss to Liverpool.

It is ironic that Chelsea had exactly the player they needed in their youth ranks just six years ago. Released by the club in 2014, Rice went on to make a name for himself at West Ham.

Declan Rice will add much to the Chelsea backline

According to the report, Chelsea have money to spend and believe they have enough to attain Rice. A commanding defender, he also adds leadership and communication at the back. The very qualities that the Blues desperately require.

Carr believes Rice is developing into a brilliant player and that his recent displays are a testament to that. He also went on to reveal his fear that the youngster could indeed bid adieu to the London stadium. (h/t Express)

“I’m a little bit concerned. I hope he stays, I really do.”

Carr believes Rice is happy at West Ham. He went on to add that money could be a determining factor with Chelsea set to double his current wages. (h/t Express)

Chelsea’s back four have been horrendous

“If someone says ‘we’re going to double your money if you come to us’, it’s hard to turn down and let loyalty be the deciding factor.”

The Hammers legend also sent a personal appeal to the 21-year-old urging him to stay put. Rice has experienced a brilliant rise in recent years, even making it to the national team. Carr believes it has all happened because of the chances afforded to him at the London Stadium. (h/t Express)

We will have to give credit to West Ham in seeing the potential in the player where we haven’t. It is true that he has thrived at the club and took his chances.

It is also evident that his skill makes him stand out in what is largely an average Hammers side. Rice is touted for great things and he can achieve that at Chelsea.

A boyhood Blue, it is up to Rice to decide if he wants to take the step up or keep battling relegation year in-year out.
