Former PL star tips Chelsea ace to stay put at club despite increased competition

Luis Garcia expects Tammy Abraham to stay put at Chelsea

Speaking to Stadium Astro (h/t Express), former nemesis Luis Garcia believes Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham will stay put at Chelsea amid increased competition for places.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a bright start to the season as Chelsea’s first-choice striker. Injuries and a loss of form have of late have seen him play second-fiddle to a rejuvenated Olivier Giroud.

With German ace Timo Werner, and possibly Kai Havertz also set to join, Abraham will have more competition on his hands next season.

Tammy Abraham started the season well for the Blues

Although the exits of Pedro and, potentially, Willian will give Abraham opportunities, it may not be through the centre where Werner generally thrives.

Garcia sees the young Chelsea star take the increased competition as a source of inspiration to push him to greater heights. (h/t Express)

“When you have players at the highest level, it’s always a threat because you want to play. But also it can be a push for him because I think he’s an amazing talent.”

Garcia believes Abraham has what it takes to become one of the continent’s elite strikers. Doing so will come as a boon for Lampard who will have more options at his disposal. (h/t Express)

Werner is also capable of playing out wide, something Garcia believes can help progress Abraham’s role as a centre-forward. (h/t Express)

Michy Batshuayi is out of favour and is likely to leave. Losing Abraham, even if it is on loan, could be catastrophic if either Werner of Giroud get injured.

Abraham extended his contract at the club by a further year, earlier this month. His time at Stamford Bridge will now run until 2023.

Having come through the youth system, the 22-year-old is one of our own. He has shown he has what it takes to compete at the highest level.

Hopefully, he can not find a consistent streak while also evolve into one of the continent’s leading strikers in the coming seasons.
