Chelsea in pole position to land Kai Havertz
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Chelsea are set to close the deal for the signing of Bayer Leverkusen and Germany star Kai Havertz, as no other clubs are willing to meet his release clause.
The 21-year-old Havertz has emerged as one of the top young players in Europe, after enjoying a sensational 2019/20 campaign with Leverkusen.
Havertz has racked up amazing returns of 17 goals and 9 assists from 43 games in all competitions and could add to that tally in the Europa League next month, provided he stays at the club till then.
This has seen a host of clubs such as Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid get linked with a move for the Germany international, along with Chelsea. (h/t Daily Mail)
Bayer Leverkusen are demanding that clubs meet Havertz’s £90m release clause if they want to sign him. However, Chelsea are the only team willing to do so, with the other clubs baulking at the price, which has left the Blues in pole position to sign the 21-year-old. (h/t Daily Mail)
Chelsea have already made a huge statement in the transfer market, having signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, spending £90m on the duo. But that has not deterred the club in the pursuit of Havertz, with manager Frank Lampard even prepared to sell a few players in order to sign him.
