Chelsea set to lose out on £50m if this key target is not achieved

Chelsea could lose out on £50m with no UCL qualification

As reported by the Daily Mail, Chelsea stand to miss out on a whopping £50m loss if Frank Lampard’s side fail to finish in the top four in the Premier League this season.

Chelsea head into the final matchday of the season in the fourth place, following the 5-3 defeat to Liverpool earlier this week. Lampard & co. are just a point above Leicester City in the fifth place.

The Blues go into the final game of the season against Wolves at Stamford Bridge, knowing that just a point will be enough to guarantee a top four finish this season. Our result won’t even come into question if Manchester United defeat Leicester in their final fixture of the campaign.

It goes without saying that during the financial crisis brought about by the coronavirus crisis, every penny matters, let alone £50m.

Our transfer ban for the last summer has worked out positively, allowing us to splash the cash from Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata’s sales this time out. The club has already used this to sign Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

However, given the need to strengthen the squad further, funds will be needed. A new goalkeeper is on Lampard’s wishlist, while the defence also needs to be strengthened. And our pursuit of Kai Havertz is no secret either.

Wolves will not make it easy for us, given that they themselves are battling to hold on to their place in the top six of the Premier League table.

The reverse fixture at the Molineux had ended with us thrashing the Midlands outfit 5-2. Let’s hope for another thumping performance from the boys on Sunday.
