Chelsea want at least £50million for Kepa Arrizabalaga
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are keen to bring in a new goalkeeper and sell under-fire custodian Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Signed for a world-record fee of £72million in 2018, Kepa has failed to live up to the reputation. The Blues are ready to cut their losses on the keeper just two years since.
According to the report, Chelsea want at least £50million for the player this summer. The likes of Ajax Amsterdam keeper Andre Onana and Burnley custodian Nick Pope are among those under consideration.
Although Chelsea know they cannot recoup what they paid for Kepa, they also are aware of Lampard’s lack of faith in the custodian.
It was acutely on display in two key games recently. Lampard went with reserve keeper Willy Caballero over Kepa in the FA Cup semifinal against Manchester United and the final day league clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Chelsea are also open to loaning out Kepa. This would give them a chance to re-assess their options in the future. A successful loan deal could help the player regain his reputation, enabling us to sell him for more.
If none of the offers materialize, Kepa will be forced to stay at Stamford Bridge. This could see the Blues bring in another keeper to offer competition for the 25-year-old.
Former Chelsea number one Petr Cech is now the club’s performance and technical director. He will play a key role in Chelsea’s search for a new goalkeeper.
The Blues are also keeping tabs on Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak. It was confirmed by transfer expert Nicolo Schira that the Blues are in touch with the Slovakian’s agent.
