Chelsea outcast emerges as a target for Premier League strugglers

Aston Villa could make a move for Michy Batshuayi

It has all the makings of a busy transfer window at Chelsea. One that could define us for the next few seasons.

With Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner in the bag, the Blues have got off to a brilliant start. The work is still not done with the likes of Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell also under consideration.

One of the players who could make way for the new arrivals is Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi. The 26-year-old has found himself behind Tammy Abraham in the Chelsea pecking order. He has failed to impress when given the opportunity and has seen Olivier Giroud leapfrog him since.

Michy Batshuayi could be on his way to Aston Villa

With Werner inbound and Giroud committing for another season, Batshuayi has enough cause for concern going into next season.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Dean Smith’s Aston Villa could offer him an escape route from his Stamford Bridge misery. The Villans were keen on securing the Belgian in January but were unsuccessful. They could now be set to rekindle their interest in the summer.

Batshuayi has scored 25 goals in 77 games for the Blues since signing from Marseille in 2016. Although his tally of six goals and two assists in 24 games this season is not the worst, he has looked clueless at times on the pitch. (h/t Transfermarkt)

He was touted as one of the six players who could leave the club in the summer. Any incomings at Villa will, however, will depend on the club’s ability to stave off relegation.

Another player who could be on his way out is Danny Drinkwater, who is currently on loan at Villa. The midfielder’s misery has seemingly no end, with him failing to make the squad even at a struggling Villa side.

The writing was on the wall was for Batshuayi if one considers our pre-restart preparations.

Not only did he play a largely peripheral role but was also among the two players who did not have a shirt number. The other was academy player Armando Borja.

The Belgian’s time at the Bridge looks to be up. It remains to be seen where he will end up.
