Chelsea legend gives promising verdict on club’s transfer dealings

Gianfranco Zola sees a golden future for Chelsea

Speaking at a Kick it out event to the Daily Mail, Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola has backed the club’s young stars to thrive alongside the new players coming in.

The Blues have shown faith in their young talents and have seen a number of them take their opportunities this season. The likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, Billy Gilmour, and Reece James have all shown promise.

With the transfer ban now behind them, Chelsea moved quickly to secure the signings of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. Our business is far from done with a new goalkeeper, a new left-back, and Kai Havertz all still on the agenda.

Gianfranco Zola feels Chelsea’s youngsters will thrive under competition

It is not just new players who are coming but also new opportunities. That is the view of Zola who once played alongside the great Diego Maradona.

The Italian believes the club’s youngsters will benefit from the influx of quality. He reckons playing and training alongside world-class players will also improve the levels of those around them.

Zola cited his own example of plating with Maradona at Napoli to hit home the point.

“I would have been another Gianfranco Zola if I hadn’t trained and played with Maradona every day.”

Zola believes Lampard is ding a good job

“If you want to be involved you have to be as good. And then, if you are good enough, you will become very good.”

The Italian is confident of the progress made at Chelsea. He also feels his former teammate Frank Lampard is taking the club in the right direction.

He was tasked with dealing not just with a transfer ban but also losing his best player. Lampard has done well to steer us to not just the top four but also the FA Cup final. (h/t Daily Mail)

“Chelsea are doing well considering they have a lot of young players in the team and they lost a very influential player in Eden Hazard.”
