Chelsea yet to rule out Philippe Coutinho transfer
According to ESPN, Chelsea are yet to rule out a loan move for Barcelona misfit Philippe Coutinho.
The Brazilian excelled for years at Liverpool before making a big-money move to the Nou Camp. He has struggled to make an impact in Catalunya and was shopped off to Bayern Munich on a loan last summer.
He endured a mixed time in Germany but couldn’t do enough to convince Die Roten to make the deal permanent.
Coutinho’s future could now lie at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have been the most active team in the transfer market as they continue to make up for lost time in the transfer market.
The Blues have already wrapped up deals for Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz could also follow.
With Pedro and possibly Willian looking increasingly likely to leave, Chelsea will need to bring in attacking reinforcements.
Youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi too is considering his future, which could see the Blues dip into the market if he leaves. The reduction in the wage bill could help Chelsea pay the £9million required to take Coutinho on loan for the season.
Another factor working in our favour is the player’s desire to return to England. The Brazilian has played in all four of Europe’s top leagues. However, he only hit his stride in England with Liverpool.
A true matchwinner, his ability to score and also pick out a pass will make him a force to reckon with, assuming he can rediscover his touch.
Bringing him on loan also gives us a get out of jail card if the transfer does not pan out as expected. The 28-year-old has years of Premier League experience, making him a gamble worth taking.
