Speaking to the club’s official site, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has praised his players following their 3-1 victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup semifinals.
An Olivier Giroud goal put the Blues up at the break before Mason Mount doubled the lead soon after the restart. United skipper Harry Maguire scored an own goal to round off an emphatic victory for the Stamford Bridge side.
Lampard expressed pride at his team’s performance and was clearly happy to finally get one back at Solskjaer.
“I’m very proud of the team today.”
He praised his side’s work ethic and admitted that he could hardly ask for much more. Lampard credits his players for following the system to a tee while also maintaining high standards of work ethic.
“What impressed me most was the work ethic of the performance.”
An important aspect that Lampard brought for praise was the leadership shown by his players. He had recently to Sheffield United.
That message has been heeded by his stars, who looked to be in control and stepped up when needed.
“Today was a performance full of character, personality and we had leaders all over the pitch.”
The victory puts an end to Lampard’s three-match losing streak against United. It’s said that bad things happen in threes and in this case, it appears to be true.
United came into the match on the back of a 19-match unbeaten streak and looking every bit the favourites. Rather than being awed or daunted, the Blues set about systematically, dismantling everything that made out opponents seem formidable.
Chelsea face Liverpool next in the Premier League. Leicester City’s loss means that we need just three points from the last two games to guarantee a top-four finish.
A victory at Anfield should ensure that. Given that the players are high on confidence, we could just as well do that.
