It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Chelsea had just won the Europa League but found themselves playing under a manager who did not understand the ethos of the club.

Maurizio Sarri is undoubtedly a good manager but he just wasn’t a Chelsea man. Step in club legend Frank Lampard. After making a name for himself at Derby County, the Blues veteran returned to Stamford Bridge to take the club’s reins.

It was been a year of mixed results. Lampard has given us moments to remember but also ones that have seen us bitterly frustrated. However, there is no denying that progress is being made whilst staying true to the Chelsea way of doing things.

With a top-four finish and potentially an FA Cup on offer, the season could yet end with silverware.

The Englishman will have a better squad at his disposal next season. With the added pressure, it remains to be seen how he will cope. If his record as a player is anything to go by, we can expect fireworks.
