Chelsea keen on Atalanta defender Robin Gosens

According to Kicker (h/t Metro), Chelsea have made Atalanta left-back Ruben Gosens a priority target for the summer transfer window.

The Blues have enjoyed a season fraught with inconsistency but full of promise. The additions of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner will undoubtedly strengthen the attack. The defence, however, needs attention.

One of the major areas that need strengthening is the left side of the defence. Ben Chilwell is the club’s preferred choice. But with Leicester City demanding in excess of £50m, the Blues are seeking other alternatives.

The left-back, who is also capable of playing in the midfield, has enjoyed a spectacular season for Atalanta. He has made 38 appearances so far, scoring 10 goals and 8 assists. Incredible statistics for a defender.

Not only is he a dependable defender but will also add much to our attack. The prospect of Gosens alongside Christian Pulisic on the left flank will be a daunting prospect for any opposition.

According to the report, Atalanta are open to selling the player and will demand £27m. It looks like a much more attainable move when compared to Chilwell.

Competition for Gosens is high, with the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan and Hertha Berlin all keen.

Both Marcos Alonso and Emerson have failed to cement the position this year. This has forced Lampard to utilize skipper Cesar Azpilicueta to deputize in their stead this season.

Gosens has proven to be a regular in the Atalanta side that has made it to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Currently third in the Serie A, they could still mathematically win the competition if Juventus drop the ball.

Gosens may not be a big name in the game. However, he continues to be a consistent performer who lets his performances on the pitch do the talking. The German just might turn out to be one of the best signings in the window.
