Andy Brassell believes Chelsea can sign Timo Werner on a discount
Speaking to Premier League Productions (h/t Express), European football expert, Andy Brassell believes Chelsea could sign Timo Werner for a cheaper price.
The 24-year-old striker is inching closer to a move to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea already have a deal in principle to sign the player after we agreed to meet his release clause of £53million.
Brassell believes the Blues could get Werner for lesser due to RB Leipzig’s stance. The Germans are receptive of facilitating Werner’s move to Stamford Bridge and look for a replacement
In spite of personal terms being agreed upon, fans have questioned the apparent lack of progress since.
Brassell believes that there is nothing to worry about and the hold up is due to the delay in conducting a medical. Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the club have been unable to send their doctors to Germany to check the player.
With the Bundesliga back in full flow, Werner too is unable to travel to England. Despite reports of the German’s release clause expiring on June 14, the deal is expected to go through.
“We do still expect it to still get over the line.”
According to the report, Leipzig are keen to see the deal go through and could be willing to even drop their asking price below the release clause.
“It has been suggested in Germany that because Leipzig are happy to facilitate the move, and they’ve planned forward to do so, they may be happy to take a discount on the €60m [£53m] buyout clause.”
Getting the better of the likes of Liverpool for the player has been seen as a coup for the Blues. To do so at a fee lower than that of his release clause will make it all the more sweeter.
