Chelsea enquire about the availability of David Alaba

According to the Athletic (h/t Express), Chelsea have enquired about the availability of Bayern Munich star David Alaba.

The Blues are in the market for a left-back and have identified Leicester City star Ben Chilwell as their top target.

However, with the Foxes holding firm on their demand of around £70m, Chelsea have begun drawing up contingency plans.

In Alaba, Chelsea will be getting a highly versatile player who has vast experience of playing at the highest level. Add to that his proficiency on the dead ball, we have a real star on our hands.

The 28-year-old has been a mainstay in the Bayern side who have won their 8th straight Bundesliga title.

Alaba came up through the Bayern system since joining the club as a teenager in 2008. He initially spent his time in the reserves side before making the step up to the senior squad in 2010.

He has made 380 appearances for Die Roten and has scored 30 goals and 48 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

A six-time Austrian footballer of the year, he has helped the Bavarians win an incredible 17 major honours in the last decade.

Bayern are in no mood to entertain offers and have plainly rejected Chelsea’s advances. Dependable full-backs are worth their weight in gold and Bayern certainly appreciate what they have.

Marina Granovskaia has since moved onto other players, with Chilwell still very much a part of the conversation. (h/t Express)

Leicester successfully held Manchester United for ransom last season. The Red Devils ended up paying a world-record fee to prise Harry Maguire away from the King Power stadium.

Chilwell currently has four years left on his current deal. One can expect the Foxes to dig in their heels once again.

Alaba’s contract at the Allianz Arena expires next summer. It remains to be seen if we will return for him later this yeat.
