According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has dismissed reports that Angel Gomes is on his way to Stamford Bridge.
The 19-year-old is out of contract at United and will leave the club as a free agent. Although the Red Devils were keen to keep him, they have been unable to reach an agreement.
Having been strongly linked with the player in the past, the Blues were heavily touted as his possible destination. Lampard has however moved quickly to dismiss the allegations.
“I can elaborate to the point that it’s never been mentioned at my end.”
According to the report, Gomes rejected United’s offer of around £25,000-a-week to seek his fortunes elsewhere.
Gomes is one of United’s best young players. The former Young Player of the Year became the first United senior player to be born in the 2000s.
The 19-year-old was also a part of the England Under-17 side that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2017.
It is clear that the youngster has bags of potential with a high ceiling. However, it appears that his future will not be at the Bridge.
It is easy to believe why the promising young talent would prefer Chelsea. Under Lampard, we are in the midst of a youth revolution. The boss has shown that he is not afraid to play youngsters if he feels they are good enough – not something you will find at many top teams.
With the additions of Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, promise will be supplemented with experience. Exciting times are ahead for Chelsea fans.
