Chelsea ready to sell four stars to fund the transfer of key £85m-rated target

Chelsea ready to part with four players to sign Ben Chilwell

According to the Times, Chelsea are ready to part with four players to fund a move for Ben Chilwell.

The Leicester City star is a key target for Frank Lampard who is keen to strengthen his left-back position. The futures of both Emerson and Palmieri and Marcos Alonso are up in the air, necessitating reinforcement. (h/t Daily Star)

Chilwell will cost a mammoth £85million. The Foxes received a world record fee for Harry Maguire last summer. If their asking price is met, Chilwell could break that number this year.

Having already signed Hakim Ziyech and with Timo Werner in the bag, the Blues have spent a considerable sum already. With Chilwell commanding such a hefty fee, the club’s decision to let a number of players go is understandable.

Both Pedro and Willian are out of contract and are expected to leave, freeing up the wage bill.

Apart from Emerson and Alonso, the likes of Michy Batshuayi, Davide Zappacosta, Kurt Zouma, Andreas Christensen, and Tiemoue Bakayoko are all available for sale.

Although Real Madrid are interested in N’Golo Kante, Chelsea are not interested in selling the Frenchman.

Chelsea are keen to strengthen at left-back

The 23-year-old Chilwell has been a regular in the Leicester team as they look set to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. Having shown his capability to play at the highest level, he will be a promising signing.

He has made 118 appearances for the Foxes and has scored three goals and 12 assists. A solid defender, he is also good going forward.

Chilwell is young and will only get better with time. Whether it is at Stamford Bridge or not remains to be seen.
