Chelsea legend reveals his father’s anger upon snubbing Man United for Stamford Bridge

John Terry revealed his father was furious he rejected Man Utd for Chelsea

John Terry is one of the finest defenders to don the Chelsea and England jerseys.

The 39-year-old went on to have an extremely successful career at Stamford Bridge. He spent 19 seasons at the club, making 712 appearances. During this time he scored 66 goals and assisted 29. (h/t Transfermarkt)

One of our most celebrated players, he could have ended up at Manchester United had things gone differently.

John Terry chose Chelsea over Manchester United

He revealed that his father was unhappy that his son snubbed the Red Devils that he refused to step onto the pitch when Terry penned the deal.

Speaking on the Footballer’s Guide to Football podcast (h/t Daily Mail), he revealed how unhappy his father was with his decision.

“My dad never wanted me to sign for Chelsea. Actually, on the pitch of me signing my schoolboy form at the club, my dad refused to go on the pitch with me.”

Thankfully for us, Terry was convinced that Chelsea was the club for him. 17 years and 15 major major trophies later, his decision has been vindicated.

“I knew Chelsea was right for me.”

The 14-year-old endured a tough night back home as his father ‘kicked off’ at his son’s refusal to sign for United. Terry remains an ardent supporter even today and loves the club just the same.

Terry will be up against Chelsea this weekend

“I just knew and loved Chelsea from the moment I walked in and never looked back, I still love the club and look out for every result now.”

A leader on the pitch, he was one of the finest captains in the Premier League. Someone who led from the front, he was an example for his teammates on the pitch.
