Chelsea end interest in Birmingham starlet Jude Bellingham
According to the Express, Chelsea have dropped their interest in Birmingham City wonderkid Jude Bellingham.
The Blues had been keen on the 16-year-old making the waves in the Championship. They have however decided not to go up against Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund for his signature.
At 16 years and 38 days, Bellingham became the youngest player in Birmingham City’s history. The versatile youngster is capable of playing anywhere in the midfield, with him predominantly playing in the middle and on the right.
The Blues have a number of young prospects at their disposal. With the rise of Billy Gilmour, that number has only increased.
With a young squad at his disposal, Frank Lampard has not shied away from giving opportunities to his rookies. They have benefitted from the game time, with a number of them ready to take the next step.
The club have stolen a march on their rivals, having already signed Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. The duo will add more experience and give Lampard more options.
Birmingham are out of contention for promotion to the Premier League, given their mid-table position. Bellingham has played in 33 of the 28 games in the Championship so far. He has scored four goals and assisted three more in what has been a decent output. (h/t Transfermarkt)
It’s a shame that we are not in the running for the youngster. He could become something truly special in the future. Given the talent already at the club and the ones we are looking to add, the club is looking at a bright future ahead.
