According to Brazilian publication Globoesporte (h/t Express), Chelsea are interested in Santos starlet Kaio Jorge.

The 18-year-old is one of the brightest prospects in South American football. He has also attracted interest from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.

Jorge has been named ‘the new Cristiano Ronaldo’. A player with quick feet and good technique, he has scored 6 goals in 10 appearances for Brazil’s Under-17 side. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Santos could be forced to sell the youngster as they continue to grapple with the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic. This could be good news for Chelsea, who could add another talented young player to their ranks.

According to the report, Jorge has a release clause worth £69million. However, he could be sold for as low as £26.6million. Selling him for the price will considerably ease the club’s financial position.

The Blues hold an advantage given that they are familiar with the player’s representative Giuliano Bertolucci. The super-agent also represents former Chelsea stars Oscar and David Luiz, and has a healthy relationship with the club.

Chelsea has been active in bringing in players for the upcoming season. Having already secured Hakim Ziyech, the club are now hot favourites to sign Timo Werner.

The addition of Werner has brought into question the role of Tammy Abraham. Adding Jorge to the mix with only make the question louder.
